The Importance of Using the Web for Insurance Marketing

January 21, 2009 - As consumers rely more on the Web for information, the insurance industry is beginning to realize the importance of using the Web to reach and service customers. Based on an informal survey by insurance Web expert IdeaStar, it is clear while many are cautiously beginning to stick their toes in the water, many others are planning a significant strategy shift to focus more effort on the Web.

As an example of the changing trend, in the survey compare the top five current product marketing methods to the expected methods in the near future. Ninety percent of respondents currently list direct mail and print periodical articles as two of their top five current methods, but in the near future only 40% expect direct mail to remain in their top five, and, less than 27% expect to utilize print periodical articles as a top five method. Furthermore, the respondents plan to increase their usage of social media optimization (SMO), search engine marketing (SEM), and podcasting. View the complete survey here.
